Privacy Policy

The Bureau runs without accounts, logins, or personal profiles. We do not know your name, email address, or identity, and we have no way to learn them. Here is the complete inventory of what this site stores and observes.

The taste cookie

A single first-party cookie (bfg_p) stores anonymous play preferences: which game tags you engage with (e.g. “puzzle: 6/9”), the ids of your last few played games, a play counter, and rough time-of-day habits. It exists so the front desk can recommend better games. It contains no identifier, is never joined to other data, and is not shared with anyone. A fuller play history is kept in your browser’s local storage and never leaves your device.

You can inspect everything in these stores, and erase both permanently, on the Your File page. Erasure is immediate and unconditional.

Analytics

We use two aggregate analytics services to understand which pages are visited: Vercel Analytics (privacy-focused, cookieless) and Google Analytics. These report anonymous, aggregate statistics — pageviews, approximate region, browser type. Google Analytics may set its own cookies subject to Google’s privacy policy. We use this data solely to see what people play and improve the catalog.

Advertising

The site is supported by clearly-labeled advertisements. When ads are served by third-party networks, those networks may set their own cookies subject to their policies and applicable consent requirements; where required by law (for example in the EEA and UK), a consent prompt is shown before any advertising cookies are set.

Game content

Games are streamed directly from the Internet Archive to your browser; when you play, your browser requests files from archive.org, subject to the Internet Archive’s own terms and privacy policy. Games run entirely in your browser via emulation and cannot access your data.

Children

The site is intended for a general audience, collects no personal information from anyone, and requires no registration.
